Guarino, Alyssa
What brought you to UGA? I decided to attend UGA because of the great environment between faculty and graduate students, the collaboration between labs, and the various types of departments and disciplines of plant science research that I could choose from.
What are your research/study interests? I’m currently researching cellulose synthesis in plant cell walls and primarily interested in looking at how the Cellulose Synthase Complex in Arabidopsis thaliana is regulated through post-translational modifications.
What has been a benefit of being part of IPS?/How did it help you select your program? The rotations offered through IPS were a major part of how I got involved in my current research. There are so many departments that you can join, and I decided to rotate in labs in three different departments. This experience helped me make an informed decision about what field I was most interested in.
What are your career goals? I want to pursue a career that will allow me to continue to do scientific research, but also engage in science education and communication.
Who is your major professor? Dr. Ian Wallace.
