Jackson, Jeremiah
What brought you to UGA? During my Junior year of undergraduate studies, a biology professor of mine, Dr. Austin Shull, recommended I apply for the Crop Genetics and Genomics REEU (CGGv2 REEU) here at UGA. After spending that summer in the lab of Dr. Esther van der Knaap, I knew that the atmosphere was such that I could carve out a decent living as a graduate student here.
What are your research/study interests? I am currently interested in functional and phylogenomics of the genus Ipomoea, the genus containing Morning Glories and sweet potato, with a particular interest in section batatas.
What has been a benefit of being part of IPS?/How did it help you select your program? A key benefit I gained from being a part of IPS was exposure to some of the many facets of the plant sciences. As someone who did not have much experience with graduate research outside of the REEU, it was a useful time to see what I found most interesting.
What are your career goals? My current career plan is geared towards acquiring an industry position
immediately following graduation with plans to teach later in life.
Who is your major professor? My major professor is Dr. Jim Leebens-Mack
